An homage to Marilyn Monroe at the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo

“Give a girl the rightshoes, and she can conquer the world”, were the words of one of Hollywood’s favourite icons. For the 50th anniversary of her death, the museum Salvatore Ferragamo in Florence pays homage to Marilyn Monroe with an exhibition that embraces both her life and death. The goddess of the screen, who loved to wear Ferragamo’s exquisite pumps, took the steps that made her reach the last conquest of the world: that of immortality.

The exhibition has a catalogue with more than 30 pairs of shoes that Ferragamo designed for the actress, together with 50 of her most famous dresses lent by collectors from all over the world, photographs and legendary film clips. The curators of the show, Stefania Ricci and Sergio Risaliti, sought to link Marilyn Monroe to the Renaissance culture as a contemporary version of Venus, so modern art representations of the actress appear together with classical paintings and naked marbles, as emblems of beauty. To accompany the exhibition, the museum has also edited a book with previously unseen photographs, which was released last week under the same simple title of the exhibition: “Marilyn”.

The exhibition will be on display until the 28th of January, 2013. At Il Salviatino, your luxury hotel in Florence, we consider that you should not miss the chance of visiting ‘Marilyn’. It is not just an exhibition, it’s a homage to an icon that still is just as alive as it was, even fifty years after it disappeared.
