Where to find the best ‘gelato’ in Florence

One of the best things of the summer is that you can enjoy a creamy, tasty and always refreshing ice cream and feel like a kid again.

Italy is well-known for being the most delicious ice creams’ place in the world.

In case you’re coming to Florence this summer, sooner or later you’ll wonder “Where can I find a good gelato?”. Following, you’ll find some suggestions:

If you’re near Santa Croce, you can visit Vivoli, in Via Isole delle Stinche 7r, most of all if you like the fruit tastes.

When you’re going by Il Palazzo Vecchio, Gelateria de’Neri, Via dei Neri 22r, won’t let you down.

If you’re in the Oltrarno area, you can go to Gelateria La Carraia (Piazza Sauro Nazario, 25r – Ponte alla Carraia) or Gelateria Della Passera (Via Toscanella 15r) and start enjoying.

Close to the Duomo (Via del Campanile corner with Via delle Oche) you can find the excellent Italian worldwide chain Grom. On the other side, Gelateria de’ Medici, at Via dello Statuto 3/5, is not in the center of Florence, but it’s one of the best gelaterias in the city.

In Florence there is also an ice cream shop that has been recently elected as one the best 20 ones in the world: Carapina, at Piazza Guglielmo Oberdan 2/r.

And of course, at Il Salviatino, you can have the best ice cream with the best views of Florence at the same time, from the top of Fiesole’s hill.

There’s still a lot summer ahead. Let’s have fun! Let’s enjoy Florence.

Food festivals: using the palate to discover Tuscany

There are so many ways to discover Tuscany: with the eyes, with the soul, with the body… but today we’d love to tell you how to combine all these ways together by means of the palate. Not only you will fall in love with everything worth seeing here; you will also fall in love with the rich Tuscan gastronomic offer.

This summer there will be several food festivals (sagre, in Italian), both in and out of the Florentine area, and we have picked the next 4 of the original ‘Top 10’ made by magazine, The Florentine. Are you coming to Florence these days? Well, choose the most appealing sagra for you, and just dedicate yourself to enjoy.

-          2nd – 17th August: Sagra del Panigaccio, Podenzana, Massa Carrara.

What about having some typical Lunigiana-area bread with olive oil, cheese, cured meats and mushrooms?

-          Until 17th August: Festa del Mugello, ObiHall, Lungarno Aldo Moro, Florence.

A summer BBQ at the ObiHall; every day at 7pm.

-          12th – 21st August: Sagra della Ficamaschia, Porto Ercole.

The home of the ‘oily fish’. Aren’t you curious about it?

-          23rd – 31st August: Sagra del Cinghiale, Foro Boario, Borgo San Lorenzo.

Do you like meat? This is your place

From Il Salviatino, your 5 stars hotel in Florence, we can only say Buon Appetito!

The year of Michelangelo

Can anybody tell what’s in the mind of a prodigy? Where does the mystery of his inspiration reside? We find only questions that nobody can answer when we think about the wonder of these people. All of them born to leave their permanent trace in the world… like Michelangelo, our beloved Tuscan prodigy for whom we commemorate the 470th anniversary of his death this year.

They use to call him ‘Il Divino’ (The divine) and there couldn’t had been any more proper nickname. The Renaissance wouldn’t had been the same without works like the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling (1508 – 12), just to mention one of the many masterpieces he created.

For his enormous contribution to mankind we salute him and we want to recall that wonderful time when he was an Il Salviatino’s guest. Do you remember? Read it here

That was Il Salviatino‘s little tribute to the great man Michelangelo was.
