Where classical music meets modernity: L’Opera di Firenze

In a previous article we wrote about Florence as a gastronomic capital. Today we want to widen that concept by not only calling it a gastronomic capital, but a whole modern, avant-garde capital. The Opera house (L’Opera di Firenze) is a proof of it. Built to host more than 2000 spectators in its outdoor cavea and with 1100 seats in the auditorium, The Opera house was thought to be a piece of contemporary architectural design that connects the historical with the youngest side of Tuscany’s heart. And of course, as an undeniable meeting point for artists and citizens, The Opera house is hosting the 77th edition of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, a true example of Florence’s rich cultural life and an event of international renown.
This year the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino is including a variety of activities, from classical music to cinema, from conferences to dance, in order to reach everyone’s preferences.

From Il Salviatino, your 5 stars hotel in Florence, we sincerely invite you to live this experience of complete enjoyment in our city. We are waiting for you!

Pollock-Buonarroti. ‘La figura della furia’ in Florence

The Renaissance vs. Abstract expressionism

XVIth century vs. XXth century

Order vs. Chaos

Two men. Two geniuses. One art.

La figura della furia explores the creative process of two different artists, Michelangelo and Jackson Pollock, emphasizing the influence that the first exercised over the second.

The first part of the exhibition is hosted in il Palazzo Vecchio, at la Sala dei Gigli and la Sala della Cancelleria. This first section includes works of art from different parts of the world, from Tel Aviv to New York, and shows the interest of a young Pollock in Buonarroti’s depiction of bodies.

The other part is set in the complex of San Firenze and offers an interactive approach to the legacy of these great artists, including audiovisual material.

The exhibition will run until July 27th

Schedule:

Palazzo Vecchio: 9 am – 12 am.  Thursday: 9 am – 2 pm

Complex of San Firenze: 10 am – 8 pm. Thursday: 10 am – 2 pm

The new look of il Mercato Centrale

Every city is a living being that evolves and grows, and Florence is not an exception. Florence has the best from the old times, but it is also a place for the young, open to modernity and ready for future trends.

The re-opening of il Mercato Centrale, located in the very heart of the city at la Piazza del Mercato Centrale-Via dell’Ariento, only 5 minutes away from Santa Maria Novella and Piazza San Marco, gives Florence a new look, making it a true avant-garde gastronomic capital.

With an ecologic home delivery service, a restaurant, a pizzeria, a bar, a coffee shop, a Cooking and a Wine school, a bank, a book shop and a store of typical Florentine products, among other places and services,  il Mercato Centrale introduces itself as a really pleasant meeting point for everyone who wants to eat, to have a drink or just to have a nice time in the city center.

Il Mercato Centrale opens every day from 10 am. to midnight.

The year of Michelangelo

Can anybody tell what’s in the mind of a prodigy? Where does the mystery of his inspiration reside? We find only questions that nobody can answer when we think about the wonder of these people. All of them born to leave their permanent trace in the world… like Michelangelo, our beloved Tuscan prodigy for whom we commemorate the 470th anniversary of his death this year.

They use to call him ‘Il Divino’ (The divine) and there couldn’t had been any more proper nickname. The Renaissance wouldn’t had been the same without works like the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling (1508 – 12), just to mention one of the many masterpieces he created.

For his enormous contribution to mankind we salute him and we want to recall that wonderful time when he was an Il Salviatino’s guest. Do you remember? Read it here

That was Il Salviatino‘s little tribute to the great man Michelangelo was.

An approach to ‘Family Matters’ at CCC Strozzina

There is not an absolute definition for the term family. There are only some more or less specific meanings. Perhaps each one of us has its own concept. This ambiguity is the origin of the new exhibition at the Centre for Contemporary Culture at Palazzo Strozzi (CCC Strozzina). Through the work of eleven international artists, “Family Matters. Portraits and experiences of family today” explores the evolution of the social and the cultural concepts of ‘family’.

Guy Ben-Ner, Sophie Calle, Jim Campbell, John Clang, Nan Goldin, Courtney KEssel, Ottonella Mocellin , Nicola Pellegrini, Trish Morrisey, Hans Op de Beeck, Chrischa Oswald and Thomas Struth share the personal subjective experiences of each one of them, but join forces in the search of a universal definition of the term.

Family Mattersstarts the 14th March until the 20th July.

Tuesday to Sunday: 10 am. to 8 pm.

Thursdays: 10 am. to 11 pm.

Monday: closed

When it comes to Il Salviatino, your boutique hotel in Florence, we consider ourselves a big family. So, from our family to yours, we highly recommend you this interesting exhibition.
