Visiting Florence in Winter

If you’re thinking of visiting Florence this Winter, you’re then having a wonderful idea! We so love the city during such season, as it’s a great opportunity for you to grab your coat, to have a hot cappuccino and to enjoy the most important city spots and monuments during a less crowded period. Also, you’d have the chance to go through the holiday craze: Christmas lights decorating the streets, panettone packs in every store, and last minute Christmas’ shopping.

This season is perfect to visit the amazing museums and churches that you’ll find in Florence, not only because they’re famous masterpieces, but also because off-season means you’ll spend a lot less of your precious time waiting in queue. Also a common thing to do in the winter is going to the theater, to the opera and to other shows as well, which make Florentine evenings really special.

Moreover, winter is the season of markets; you can’t miss the different Christmas’ markets that are all around the city, offering you an exquisite variety of gifts, souvenirs, local products, wine and food. But if what you’re looking for is to practice ice-skating or snow tubing, you have two options – one near Piazza della Libertà as well as the Tuscany Winter Park.

To finish up the amazing winter experience in Florence, book a Dome view room at Il Salviatino and let us pamper you!

The 70’s are reviving at Il Salviatino

In 1975 Labelle sang about a lady called Marmalade and three years later The Bee Gees invited us to ‘stay alive’ with their falsetto voices. In 1973 Linda Blair gave us the chills with all the demonic stuff, but after four years we shaked the fear away by dancing to the rhythm of a very young Travolta. Yes, the 70’s were full of great things. How we dressed, how we spoke, how we combed our hair…

This year, to celebrate Christmas and the New Year, we couldn’t fight the temptation to revive those magical years. To reunite its music and its aesthetics to make you all travel through time. The 70’s are alive at Il Salviatino, and so here are our proposals for you:

 – Festive Season Package

 – Christmas Package

 – New Year’s Package

Pick your bell-bottoms from the back of your closet, put that old Afro wig on your head and groove on with us!

How Christmas is going to be this year in Florence

In this global world we are living in, Christmas is a festive time in many different nations, although every nation has its own traditions and ways to celebrate it.

As every year, Christmas is about to take Florence with its colorful lights, warm feelings and Panettone-like flavors.

During this month there will be several street markets, like Heidelberg’s in Piazza Santa Croce, where you can find some beautiful Christmas-themed handcrafted works. On Christmas Day (when you have the possibility to attend the midnight mass at the Duomo) and Saint Stephen’s Day (26th of December) you can take a walk around town to visit these street markets and also to see the different displayed crèches, some of which are true artworks.

If you like sacred music, you can come to Il Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino next 19th and 20th to enjoy the Christmas concert, under the direction of Lorenzo Fratini.

And in case these days you stay at Il Salviatino, your 5 stars hotel in Florence, you should know that Fiesole will share the Tuscan Christmas’ spirit. Want to go out and have a walk? An Artistic Nativity will be displayed at Villa Rigoli so you can go and see it.

But before Christmas arrives, there will be another thing to celebrate on the 10th of December: the 500th birthday of Machiavelli’s ‘The Prince’.

“The end justifies the means” he said, and we simply want to end saying that we wish you nothing but the best this Festive season.
