Florence, hosting the Institute of Masters of Wine’s 8th Symposium

It started sixty years ago with an exam, known as the Master of Wine examination, aimed for the trade. Now it has become one of the largest and most prestigious organizations linked to the world of wine. Therefore it’s an honor to say that Florence will be hosting the next symposium of the Institute, scheduled from May 15th to the 18th. The event, celebrated every four years, is expected to be the largest one ever.  Over 400 delegates from more than 30 countries and 124 Masters of Wine will attend. In addition, the symposium is open to all wine professionals interested in the future of the wine industry, so, if you are a connoisseur, you are invited.

From Il Salviatino, your 5 stars hotel in Florence, we happily welcome the event. We are all united for the respect and the love of wine and the wine industry, so we salute all the professionals involved with it.

Welcome to Firenze!

A short trip to the East at Casa Martelli

There is a kind of magic in the Middle East that fascinates us; a passion that started during the 19th century. Napoleon’s campaigns had a lot to do with the beginning of it, because the western civilization could take a look at the Eastern mysteries for the first time. Several men of that time went abroad to discover themselves these incredible, unseen territories. And one of them was Carlo Martelli (1850 – 1945) who travelled to the Holy Land with some friends. Between the 26th August and the 24th October 1879 they visited Alexandria, Cairo Port Said, Jaffa, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Emmaus, the Dead Sea, the Sea of Galilee, Nazareth, Damascus and Beirut. When he came back home, he brought some extraordinary souvenirs, like the 24 portraits that now make Viaggio in Oriente, the exhibition that started last June and that have been extended until the 10th May, at Casa Martelli, on Thursdays from 2 pm. to 7 pm. and on Saturdays from 9 am. to 2 pm.

The young Carlo Martelli feel in love with the colors, the costumes and the light of these exotic places. He praised the painters and photographers who captured that beautiful essence because he could bring a little of it back home. And now, we thank him for we have inherited such a great legacy from his part.

And from Il Salviatino, we recommend you to take a short trip to the East without even leaving Florence.

The year of Michelangelo

Can anybody tell what’s in the mind of a prodigy? Where does the mystery of his inspiration reside? We find only questions that nobody can answer when we think about the wonder of these people. All of them born to leave their permanent trace in the world… like Michelangelo, our beloved Tuscan prodigy for whom we commemorate the 470th anniversary of his death this year.

They use to call him ‘Il Divino’ (The divine) and there couldn’t had been any more proper nickname. The Renaissance wouldn’t had been the same without works like the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling (1508 – 12), just to mention one of the many masterpieces he created.

For his enormous contribution to mankind we salute him and we want to recall that wonderful time when he was an Il Salviatino’s guest. Do you remember? Read it here

That was Il Salviatino‘s little tribute to the great man Michelangelo was.

Let’s celebrate the spring’s arrival at Il Salviatino

For some people the spring means allergy. Other ones love the colors bursting and the mild temperatures. For some it means the love of joy and youth… and for Il Salviatino, your 5 stars hotel in Florence, the spring implies a cheerful invitation to all of you to come, visit us and celebrate the arrival of this glorious season. If you book your room at Il Salviatino before the 31st March for stays until the end of May, you will get a special discount: the room rates start from €275.

We are not going to lie. It does not matter the moment of the year, because Florence always looks good. Of course, there are always interesting and fun things to do in town, no matter when one comes. But the truth is that visiting Florence during the spring has a value added. It is not as cold as in the winter, but not as hot as in the summer. A true parade of colors invades the streets. The sunlight gives even the most famous places a new appearance… and the views from the top of Fiesole’s hill take one’s breath away.

However, it is not the point that we say all these things. The real deal is that you come and live your own experience. And remember: Both Florence and Il Salviatino will be waiting for you.

Are you planning to marry your darling this year? Do it at Il Salviatino!

Our weddings are something we all think about more than once in our lives. We fantasize about the person we will marry, how the ceremony will be and, most of all, where we would like to celebrate it. Some people like doing it at a beach, some others in the countryside. However, what about marrying your darling at a hotel? What about doing it at Il Salviatino? We have had the privilege to witness some weddings at our villa; former guests who happily came here to put the rings on each other’s fingers. Even some of our visitors arrived here to spend their honeymoon at the top of Fiesole’s hill. Reckoning these past experiences, Il Salviatino has launched for another year its Perfect Proposal Package, which includes:

  • Two nights’ accommodation in a room of your choice.
  • Daily full à la carte breakfast.
  • One complimentary night in the occasion of your first wedding anniversary (on request, upon availability)
  • A one-hour couple massage during the stay
  • Romantic candlelight dinner at our restaurant (3 courses, drinks not included)
  • A three-hour tour with a personal shopper, to escort you to the best jewelers on the Ponte Vecchio and Via Tornabuoni or for some original fashion findings

A special confession from Mr. Z to Il Salviatino in relation to Christmas

When my daughter L. was just a child, I used to be her hero. We were the best friends in the world and in fact, since her mother passed away short after L. was born, it was only the two of us together, joining forces against the world. Nonetheless, she became a teenager and things changed. Now she barely ever speaks to me. But I am about to turn the tables. I was surfing the Internet the other day, looking for something cool to do with my kid during Christmas and I found out about this really good looking hotel in Florence named Il Salviatino. I saw they are launching a special Festive Season package inspired by… ‘The Great Gatsby’!

source: hollywoodreporter.com

When I first read it I couldn’t believe it! That one is L’s favorite book! She has read it more than twice and she told me few months ago how much she would love to have the chance to be a part of that story. So, as you can guess, this is going to be my gift to her. I will take her to Florence without telling her anything and then I will surprise her. We will dance to the music of the last film adaptation of the book, dressed up in the 20′s style, imagining that Jay Gatsby is our host and that he is dancing with Daisy near to us in such a beautiful environment.

Hopefully this will not only be the best Christmas of our lives, but I will also have the opportunity to make my daughter happy and be her friend again. So I want to thank Il Salviatino’s team from the bottom of my heart for having such a wonderful idea.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to everyone!
